Some   Want   Drama is a poem by Claude Mayers.

Some want drama
Some want untroubled calm
Who can explain
The diversity of mankind
Without spending a lifetime
Studying and talking and observing
Thousands and millions of people
Proceeding through their days
Entering their minds
Following their conversations
Age and excitement
Interact differently
As the clock slows down
As the moon cycles
Seem more constant
Youth wanting wildness
And challenge
Fresh meat
Satisfying orgasm
Speed not always breeding peace
But fun not caring
If the trumpets play warningly
Or beauty spreads its dress
Across your eyes
Your imagination flying
The senior citizens
Feeling responsibility
Rest on their shoulders
Then deliberately slip
Off into the sunset
The steps to climb
Seeming higher
The beating heart
Throwing out irregular contractions
At inconvenient moments
More medicines in the darkness
Less ambition beneath
The bird songs
Pleasure serenading the
Summer trees
Humans doodling
Under the random
Parade of anxious
And happy emotions
Fondling the protoplasm
Diseasing the metabolism
Death waiting at the end
Of the line
Where we arrive
Whenever the sum
Of our experiences
The programming of our chromosomes
Shuttle us
Through our journey
Hopefully accepting
Our place
Our individual passage
With openness
With vibrance
Perhaps struggling
Until the last ray
Of light shines
Enjoying ourselves
Until the pulse ceases
Those who love us
Taking something from our souls
To flavor their own journey
The train tracks
The cloudless atmosphere
Bringing new opportunities
As we travel
                     ever
                             onward
